A practical 10-week short course that equips professionals and decisionmakers with the knowledge and tools to design and implement climate resilient, low carbon energy solutions. The programme blends climate science fundamentals, energy systems, policy, and practical sustainability tools so participants can lead organisational transitions, develop climate action plans, and evaluate energy projects for social and environmental impact.

What You Will Learn

  • Climate science and risk: greenhouse gas basics, climate impacts, vulnerability and adaptation principles.
  • Energy systems and technologies: fossil fuels, renewables (solar, wind, hydro, biomass), grid basics and off-grid solutions.
  • Energy efficiency and auditing: building and industrial energy audits, efficiency measures, and behavioural interventions.
  • Sustainability planning and climate action: developing mitigation and adaptation plans, NDC alignment and local resilience strategies.
  • Project appraisal and finance: cost benefit analysis, lifecycle emissions accounting, financing models and grant/loan instruments.
  • Monitoring, reporting and verification: GHG inventories, MRV systems, sustainability indicators and basic carbon accounting.
  • Stakeholder engagement and policy: community consultation, policy levers, regulatory frameworks and advocacy for clean energy.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Assess climate risks and energy needs for organisations and localities.
  • Design practical energy efficiency interventions and prioritise investments.
  • Develop renewable energy project proposals with basic technical and financial justification.
  • Prepare a climate action or sustainability plan aligned to national and organisational goals.
  • Estimate greenhouse gas emissions and reductions using standard MRV approaches.
  • Engage stakeholders and navigate policy frameworks to advance sustainable energy initiatives.

Impact

Organisations and communities applying course practices will typically achieve:

  • Lower energy costs and improved energy security through efficiency and renewables.
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions and clearer pathways to net-zero targets.
  • Stronger resilience to climate impacts via integrated adaptation measures.
  • Improved access to climate finance and donor support through credible project design and MRV.
  • Enhanced reputation and regulatory readiness by demonstrating measurable sustainability performance.

Who Can Apply

  • Energy managers, sustainability officers and facility managers.
  • Local government planners, policy advisors and development practitioners.
  • Project developers, consultants and NGO staff working on climate or energy projects.

Delivery Model

  • Blended: three intensive workshops (in-person or virtual) plus weekly online microlessons.
  • Practical labs: energy audit clinics, solar PV sizing exercises, MRV workshops and project finance case studies.
  • Toolkits: energy audit templates, GHG inventory spreadsheets, project proposal templates and stakeholder engagement guides.
  • Applied assessment: submit an energy audit report, a renewable project concept note with basic financials, and a 12month climate action plan.
